I am inspired by the many forms that nature displays all around us; never more than in a simple tree. Studying these, I find a fusion between the model and the material, the copper I use and the green strength of the branches. Weight and flexibility, light and shadow are found in both. I enjoy the changing aspects of both model and material also; an unfinished project can transform unexpectedly and provide fresh inspiration.
Each piece I produce is as individual as the real tree it resembles. Trunk and branch structures are hand formed using solid copper wire from root to tip. Leaves are also hand formed and attached individually. Mounted or unmounted, patinaed or raw copper, the trees themselves dictate much of the finished pieces direction.
I am a self-taught artist who also enjoys watercolors. I strive for my trees to reflect the spirit from which they were inspired. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy creating them.
