I entered the art world
because I was interested in drawing and painting sheep for a Christmas
card. I saw a class offered in the local paper and called.
They informed me it was for children. It didn't describe it as
such so they let me and 2 other adults into a class of lots of
little kids. We had to chose a subject and keep that subject all
week but could use as many different media as we liked for our
subject. This was perfect for me as I had my subject. At
the teacher's suggestion I then enrolled at Glen Oaks Community College
and the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. I have taken numerous
workshops with Helga Flower and Joe Fettingus.
Art opened up a whole new world for me, both how I see and how I use my
time. I paint realistically with some abstract touches and
especially enjoy watching paint mix on the paper. I started out
working in charcoal and watercolor. Now my work is a mix of
acrylic, watercolor and collage. I like to mix paint on paper and
then figure out what I can do with it. Most of my subjects
are what I see everyday.
I have had works juried into shows: Three Rivers Carnegie Center
and Alberta House Sault St. Marie. And awarded 3rd place in the
Alberta House Show, 2009.
